Colorado Springs: June 1 (Day 10)

We stayed with Nate's cousin and my friend, Mike, while in Colorado Springs.
He's an alum from Penn State just like me. He has a nice secure job and a lot of nice shit like a sweet condo with this view:

Since he had big boy responsibilities every day we were on our own each afternoon. It was supposed to thunderstorm later, but we figured we could get some climbing in before it started. We took a short 5 minute drive to Red Rock Canyon which had a bunch of 5.8-5.10 sport climbs: exactly what we were looking for.

You can see why it is called Red Rock. They use the rock in the concrete and it gives a cool look to all the buildings and sidewalks in the park.

Just a couple miles away is Garden of the Gods. This is a more intense climbing area with 3 pitch climbs visible from downtown Colorado Springs.

So we took a short 5 minute hike up Red Rock Canyon and got to the climbing area. Even though there were storm clouds looming in the distance, we got our gear on and were about ready to climb. Just as I was about to lead a 5.9- route, we heard pretty intense thunder and decided it would be best to save it for another day. Not 10 minutes later it started pouring rain and pretty much hasn't stopped (or atleast had enough time to dry) in about 3 days.

We'll come back to this one later

So we went back home, did some taskin's and went to Walmart. It was filled with a bunch of characters, some of whom obviously didn't take this guy's advice. We grabbed some food and drinks for Mike and his roomate as thanks for letting us stay at their place. At night we grilled up some burgers and sausage, drank a bunch of 3.2 beer, laughed at Conan and passed out. We needed some rest as we were riding at A-Basin tomorrow.
